• Miracle of Sts. Florus and Laurus, St. Blaise of Sebaste and St. Spiridon of Tremithus

    The icon composition consists of three rows: the upper represents the episode known as “The Archangel Michael’s Miracles with Florus and Laurus”; in the central tier are the figures of the triplets, martyrs Speusippus, Eleusippus, Meleusippus on horsebacks; the lower tier represents the figures of saint Blasius and Spiridon blessing the flocks of livestock. The central part of the icon represents the figure of the Archangel Michael, with extended wings, standing on a hill, flanked by martyrs Florus and Laurus in devotional poses. With both hands, extended apart in a blessing gesture, the archangel holds two horses by the reigns as if handing them to the saints. In the lower part is a flock of horses and the mounted triplet martyrs, above their haloes can be seen the traces of inscriptions with their names.

    In the upper part of the icon is the figure of the Archangel Michael, flanked by saint martyrs Florus and Laurus and bishops Blaise and Spiridon standing in a half-turn position. In the lower part is the figure of a mounted horseman with two more horses galloping ahead of him.
  • Archangel Michael’s miracle of Florus and Laurus

    Practically half the huge board is covered with the figures of archangel Michael and saints Florus and Laurus standing on the rocks. The wings of the archangel are lifted upwards. At the feet of each rock is a rider sitting on a horse of different color – the gray, the white and the black. The iconographer mentions the names of the riders – Eliseth, Seth and Egliseth instead of the traditional Speusipp, Eulesipp and Meuleusipp. Behind Michael and the saints can be seen the town wall with the arched windows and towers. In the lower part of the composition are depicted the horses at the watering.
